“….. And they ask you about orphans, say, “improvement for them is best, and if you mix your affairs with theirs- they are your brothers, and Allah knows the corrupter from the amender, and if Allah had willed, He could have put you in difficulty, Indeed, Allah is Exactly in Might and wise” Al-Baqara 220.

TAQWA- Orphans Trust Tanzania is a group of women who came together with a definitive vision of supporting the welfare of home-based orphans in Tanzania. As a first step towards its goal, TAQWA conducted a study to evaluate the existing situation of orphans in Dar es salaam. The objective was to understand “what is happening with orphanages and home-based orphans in Tanzania?”

During the course of the study, several areas emerged as challenge for consideration such as education, health, hygiene and safety, food and nutrition, and financial capacity of guardians in both orphanage centres and home-based orphans. Further more the study findings clearly proved that, when Quran and Sunnah are followed, success in that endeavor is always close to impossible (does not happen). This is not to say that all orphanages have failed, but to confidently testify that over 98% of the 17 Muslim- run orphanages in Dar es salaam Tanzania, that TAQWA assessed are struggling n improving the lives of orphans.

Therefore, TAQWA strongly promotes restraining Muslim orphans to be raised in the orphanage centres as this adheres to the Islamic teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah. Home based orphans caring is affordable, easy to administer, easy to account for funds, and easy to show the direct impact in the lives of orphans.

“Whoever believes in Allah and the last day, let him maintain the bonds of kinship” Bukhari.

Based on this knowledge, TAQWA supports orphans who are leaving at home with their family members.

TAQWA is welcoming YOU ALL to support the welfare of home-based orphans for the betterment of their families and the society in general.
